Who is the Citizen?

In the the city there is the story of a man.  A man in a mask.  He steps from the shadows and does what needs to be done.  Each of our stories is affected by him.  He shows us that there are things to still believe in.
There are heroes.
But they are not in the places that we think they are.

In our darkest hour, we turn to many things to help us, to save us, to deliver us.  But, in the end our stories are changed, not by the world outside of us, but by the choices we make.

Choose to be better.

The Citizen is a new web-series that looks at the hero from a different angle.  Every story is told from the point of view of the people of the city and the affect that a hero has.  Each story is it's own, independent of the others, but like life, it is inextricably connected to everyone else.  Watch one episode to see one story.  Watch them all to see the whole story.

Created by Nathan Faudree in collaboration with Paul Gonzales and Kara Phelps, the Citizen is a web-series that looks at the hero from a different angle.  “The theme of the series is extremely important to me. It explores the idea that heroes are everywhere out there, but not always in the places where we would expect to find them. The stories deal with recovery and hope, concepts all three of us are familiar with.” says Faudree.  Phelps, Gonzales and Faudree are all in active recovery from substance abuse and are celebrating multiple years of sobriety. They view their work on this project as part of their recovery process, a way to share their struggles and celebrate the hope they have found in their lives.  Each has written and directed at least one episode of “The Citizen”.

The show ran into a series of stumbling blocks a couple of months out, but like any hero “The Citizen” would not be kept down.  “I broke my leg and then was doing promotions for another film, King Lee.”, says Faudree.  “The process of recovery from addiction is an ongoing struggle.  Every day we have to keep our hope and dreams alive and by telling these stories through the lens of the superhero genre, we hope to reach some people who are in those trenches and tell them that they are not alone.”
The three have some pretty exciting plans for the future, including starting production on the next episode in the series that was written and submitted spontaneously by a fan.  “He sent it to us mostly to tell us how much he was inspired by the concept of the show, and we just fell in love with it.”
At the end of the day, like the hero that they created, they will continue to be vigilant in their sobriety and never give up on building the dreams of a new life.
